Dr. Michele Stover

FIR since Fall 2026

Dr. Michele Stover is a recently promoted Senior Lecturer in the Chemistry and Biochemistry department in the College of Arts and Sciences. Since joining Baylor in the fall of 2020, Dr. Stover has taught multiple sections of General Chemistry (CHE 1301 and 1302). As a lecturer, Dr. Stover does not do lab-based research; however, she does research on how to improve student outcomes and enjoyment in her classroom. Over the last five and a half years, Dr. Stover has transitioned to an active-learning classroom and has incorporated Learning Assistants (LAs) into her classes. Dr. Stover has been recognized for her teaching and care for her students by being selected as a Baylor Fellow for 2023-24. This fall, Dr. Stover was identified by a student as an impactful professor and was recognized this semester by the Academy for Teaching and Learning in the Faculty Feature Friday for her use of LAs in the classroom. Dr. Stover serves as the advisor to the ACS (American Chemical Society) club that works with the Mayborn to perform chemistry magic shows for the community. Dr. Stover is also a mentor for the Institute for Faith and Learning’s Crane Scholars senior class.

Dr. Stover is originally from Mississippi and completed her undergraduate studies there: AA from Jones County Junior College and BS from William Carey University. Dr. Stover obtained her Ph.D. from the University of Alabama, where she used computational chemistry to study the thermochemical properties of amino acids and small peptides. Before coming to Baylor, she spent five years teaching Chemistry at the Louisiana School for Math, Science, and the Arts (LSMSA). While at LSMSA, Dr. Stover was also very involved in on-campus residential life, participating in hall events and competitions, such as co-leading a “Destressing Through Games” special project that taught students ways to relax and de-stress without the internet. 

Dr. Stover refers to herself as your "standard nerd", a reference to one of her favorite shows, “The IT Crowd.” In her free time, Dr. Stover enjoys playing all kinds of games (board, card, video, etc.) and has amassed a large collection in the process. She is also a huge DC comics fan and enjoys going to comic cons. Dr. Stover will be joined in University House by her cat, Luna, who is almost seven years old and loves playing and interacting with visitors. 

Dr. Stover is passionate about working with students and helping them grow in all aspects of her life. “I applied to Baylor University six years ago because I wanted to help Baylor in its mission to create a caring Christian community where every student feels like they belong and are seen and heard; a place where students grow equally in their faith and academic knowledge; a place where students create relationships that last a lifetime. Living on campus and serving as a Faculty-in-Residence provides the ideal setting for that to happen.”
