Dr. Jason Whitt

Dr. Jason D. Whitt is senior lecturer in the Honors Program. Prior to his appointment in the Honors College, Whitt served from 2009 to 2018 as the associate director of Baylor’s Institute for Faith and Learning and as adjunct faculty in the Medical Humanities Program.

Whitt earned degrees from Baylor University (B.A. and Ph.D.) and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (M.Div.). His research interests are in theology of disability, the intersection of faith and medicine, ecclesiology, and political theology. His articles have appeared in Christian Bioethics, Perspectives in Religious Studies, Christian Reflection, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, the International Journal of Christianity and Education, Review and Expositor, and Christian Century. 

Whitt’s primary teaching is in the Medical Humanities program, where he teaches courses on disability and Christian spirituality and health care. He coordinates the annual Baylor Medical Ethics Seminar for physicians, administrators, and other health care professionals. Additionally, he serves as co-director of the William Carey Crane Scholars Program and faculty mentor for Christian Pre-Health Fellowship. Whitt is an ordained Baptist minister, having served as a youth minister and hospice chaplain before coming to Baylor.

Joining Dr. Whitt in this role is his wife, Maggie, their son, Henry, and their Yorkie dogs, Mulkey and Griffin. “My family and I are thrilled to join the Honors Residential College,” says Dr. Whitt. “We have long admired the rich community of the HRC and look forward to sharing life with the students there. We are excited for the friendships that we will develop, knowing that they will be a blessing to our family, even as we hope to be a blessing to this wonderful community.”
